Kim Hudson: The Carers Dance & Strengthening Carer Wellbeing

Dr Kim Hudson is an Associate Lecturer at Murdoch University and a valued member of the Carers Advisory Council. Not only does she advise the Minister for Community Services on issues affecting carers, but she also has personal experience in the role. She cared for her mother as a teenager, and later for her late husband as he grappled with a high-level and deteriorating spinal cord injury.

Her passion for improving workplace arrangements for those with caring responsibilities is evident. Dr Hudson emphasises the need to recognise and thank carers for their invaluable contributions to our communities and society. She believes that events like Carers Week are crucial in shining a light on the often invisible work of carers, and advocates for better support systems within workplaces.

Dr Hudson will bring her wealth of personal and professional experience to the Carers WA Conference 2024, offering invaluable insights into the complex dynamics of care work and the importance of support systems for carers. This exploration challenges our understanding of independence and dependence, and highlights effective practices to strengthen care-based relationships and carer wellbeing.

Don’t miss her presentation, ‘The Carers Dance: A contemporary exploration of independence, dependence and interdepend[a]nce,’ where she explores the intricate relationship between carers and those they care for through the metaphor of dance.

Dr Hudson’s presentation is a must-see for anyone involved in the care sector, as it provides a fresh perspective on the nuanced role of carers, their struggles, and the ways in which we can better support them.
