Angela is a highly respected Melbourne-based lawyer specialising in disability law, with a personal and professional dedication to supporting families in caring and advocating within legal and bureaucratic systems.
Angela is the Principal of Special Voices, a bespoke legal practice that she founded in 2017. Her firm provides invaluable assistance to parents and siblings of children and adults with autism or intellectual disability, specifically in relation to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and substitute decision-making systems.
Angela’s passion for her work is driven by personal experience. Her family in Perth includes a brother with Down syndrome for whom she is an informal guardian, and she has had several “hands on” caring roles. This first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by carers makes her a powerful advocate and an informed voice on their rights and obligations under various legislation.
At the conference, Angela will speak on topics such as substitute and supported decision making, the Carer Recognition Act, and carers as advocates.
