They should be able to participate socially and economically, and have opportunities for respite to focus on their wellbeing.

ASK: Establishment of a Carer Card in Western Australia. All carers should be acknowledged and respected for their crucial community role, and easily identify themselves as carers, ensuring their involvement in processes impacting their role and the person they care for.

ASK: WA needs a new Carers Strategy. All carers should be appreciated for their immense community contribution and supported by up-to-date government policies reflecting carer diversity and roles.

ASK: $890,000 annual recurring funding to increase Carers WA support for young carers and regional carers. All carers, including young carers and regional carers, should have access to in-person support services, be acknowledged in systems they use, and have barrier-free access to resources to mitigate daily challenges in their caring role.

ASK: Establishment of a service navigation program for carers in Western Australia. All carers should be able to easily navigate support systems, be aided during transitions, and have access to services that individually support them and those they care for.

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to family members and friends who are living with disability, mental health challenges or long term health conditions (including a chronic condition or terminal illness), an alcohol or other drug dependency, or who is frail aged.
