Congratulations Royal Perth Bentley in partnership with Armadale Kalamunda in becoming carer friendly employers, successfully meeting the requirements to achieve Level 2 – COMMIT.
It is evident that East Metro Health Service is COMMITTED to supporting all staff members who are caring for a loved one.
A few highlights of the successful application were:
- Having a great internal system and processes to support staff carers as well as other staff who may not yet identify as being in a caring role
- Creating access for carers to updated resources and supports
- Utilising Carers WA Education Sessions for raising awareness of carers
- Having an EMHS Carer-Friendly working group which will direct future pathways into Level 3 – EXCEL
The Carers +Employer program focuses on 5 Key Focus Areas across 3 levels of accreditation:
- Carer Recognition
- Policies and Procedures
- Capacity Building
- Communication and Awareness
- Practical Workplace Support
Level 1 – ACTIVATE: Organisations become familiar with the minimum workplace standards and begin to develop carer friendly workplace policies and practices.
Level 2 – COMMIT: Organisations build on Level 1 – ‘Activate’ to provide clear actions and pathways to improve and embed carer friendly workplace practices.
Level 3 – EXCEL: Organisations focus on showcasing excellence and best practice of carer friendly workplace practices. At this level, carers are included and positioned as key stakeholders within the organisation.
We look forward to seeing how EMHS continues to build on their commitment to supporting carers in the workplace.
Congratulations EMHS!
